Getting the Most from Department Stores Online
By gooseandgander | March 5, 2009
If you love to shop in department stores, you probably have a very good reason for doing so. Not only can you get the best variety, you can also find some of the designer names that you love to own. The downside of this is that you may not find all of these stores nearby, and that means your shopping options are a bit limited. That is not the case anymore, because you can find virtually all department stores online in one form or another.
If you have ever dreamed of shopping at Macy’s, but you don’t have one within a hundred miles of where you live, you can now do it online. Not only that, you may find that shopping this and other department stores online is better than going to the real thing if you are looking to save some money on some great brands. The experience of the actual store is missing, of course, but this is certainly a great alternative when you can’t drive to your favorite store without spending a fortune in gas.
Whether you are shopping your favorite department stores online for the savings or because you don’t have a store near you, you have to know what to look for. Some find that there are many great things on the web sites that you can not get in the stores. These are often discontinued items, discounts, or stuff that may not have gotten to the physical stores just yet. There are sale items that are usually exclusive to department stores online, and those are the things that you want to find first. You may even find things that would otherwise have ended up in an outlet store, which can give you huge savings as well.
There are a few key points to remember when you want to shop department stores online rather than going to the physical location. Look at the shipping costs and policies before you decide that you want to shop there. Also ask or look up information about return policies and customer service. You want to know you can return something that does not fit, might be defective, or that is simply not what you ordered. You won’t find great deals and great items when shopping department stores online if you find that you are stuck with something that is not what you wanted, or can not be replaced if it is broken.

Do You Really Save Money if You Purchase Items in Bulk?
By gooseandgander | February 24, 2009
With the continued cost of various items in our society the concept of buying in bulk is getting to be more common that ever. Yet many people question if they are really saving money or not. The answer to this question that yes you will save money when you purchase the right items in bulk. For example you really don’t need to purchase a case of 200 light bulbs as that will last you for many, many years. On the other hand if you have a fairy large family or lots of guests on a regular basis you might consider buying toilet paper and paper towels in bulk.
Any item that you will use up in a short period of time is a good candidate for being purchased in bulk. There are many membership warehouses that offer bulk items that focus on families and small businesses. Dry ingredients for your home including sugar and flour are good options. Avoid buying bulk items that will result in eating the same thing day after day though as no one wants to have to do this. For example, don’t buy snacks and potato chips in bulk because everyone in your family will quickly tire of the taste.
If you find that such items like that are a good deal but more than you reasonably need, consider buying bulk items with another family. This way you can share the items and the expense. It is good idea to take the other party shopping with you so that everyone gets a fair say in what items will be purchased. You may need to be willing to try new brands of items to make this work. If the other party already uses that brand ask them to give you a sample. If you want them to consider your brand then offer them a sample of it to try as well.
Meat is probably the best item you can buy in bulk to save money. This will likely involve investing in a freezer that can be kept in your garage or basement to store the meat in. You can purchase a whole beef, a beef, or even a quarter of beef. Bulk meats of bacon and pork from pigs are also a good option. Once again you may want to consider sharing the products and the cost with a friend or relative.
Canned goods last a very long time so you can purchase them in bulk and not have to worry about them spoiling. Some good choices are soups, canned vegetables, and various sauces that you will use for cooking. Babies are quite expensive as anyone with them can attest to. Buying diapers, baby food, and baby formula in bulk are all good ways to save money on those necessities. and finally, let’s not forget about the expense relating to feeding our pets. If you use dry cat or dog food then buying it in bulk may be a good option for you.
Most people don’t change the type of laundry detergent or cleaning supplies they use very often. You can purchase these items in bulk and save plenty of money. Most of the time they will come in larger bottles that you can pour into smaller spray bottles. Make sure you have a cool dry place to store the remaining cleaning supplies that are out of the reach of children.
To ensure you are really getting a good deal on bulk items, take the time to read the information relating to the cost of the item per unit. This way you can compare that price with the overall cost. In most cases you will be able to find some really good deals that save you money. On the other hand don’t be so quick to pick up that big package of what ever you are looking at without finding out how much each item is really costing you. Manufacturers have gotten very good at selling items on concept and package designs rather than pricing.

Innovative Tribal Designs
By gooseandgander | February 18, 2009
In the world of tattoo designs there are thousands of potential tattoos to choose from. Each and every day, there are new designs added to studios and online tattoo websites. Tattoos are becoming more and more popular these days, making the designs all the more important. Although flowers and other designs are popular, tribal designs seem to be among the most common.
The one thing that sticks out with tribal tattoos is the innovation. Tribal tattoos feature unique artwork, with most being more or less solid black with no other colors. Tribal can have several different meanings as well, as it all depends on the image that the artist is trying to bring to life. Tribal can either be a design that the artist already had or the artist can take your feedback and do the entire tattoo freehand as he goes along. Experienced tattoo artists can normally do great work freehand - as it gives you the ability to make changes as he goes along.
Some of the most popular designs with tribal tattoos include skulls and letters. Unique designs are also very popular, especially those that wrap around the arms or the back. Tribal can be put virtually anywhere on the body, just like any other tattoo. Depending on the tattoo design you have in mind, it may take quite a few hours before the artist has finished. With the larger tattoos, you may need to come back to have the work finished.
Before you decide to get a tribal tattoo, you’ll first need to decide on the design. If you don’t have an idea in mind, this can take you quite a bit of time. You can look online for some ideas, or look at some of the already made designs at your local tattoo studio. If you see something that you like but you want to be a bit more creative, you can always add to the design. For example if you see a tribal skull design that you like, you can make it bigger or change just about anything in the tattoo design that would make it unique for you.
If you want the entire tattoo to be unique and creative, you can always have your tattoo artist draw the entire tattoo from scratch. You can give input as well if you want, to ensure that the design matches what you have in mind. Drawing a custom tattoo can take anywhere from an hour to several hours, depending on the size and detail of the tattoo. Tribal tattoos that have a lot of detail can be a bit complex, both to draw and to tattoo. No matter what you have in mind for your design - you can rest assured that it can be accomplished with tribal design tattoos.

A Format For Minutes of Meetings
By gooseandgander | February 13, 2009
In the company I work for, organization is paramount. We have forms for everything and everything, and they are usually efficiently designed so as to contain a maximum amount of information with a minimum amount of fuss. Our invoices, payment records, tax records, and personnel records are all flawlessly organized. That is why I was so surprised when I actually looked at our meeting notes. Apparently we had never come up with a standard format for minutes of meetings. Everything was in complete disarray.
The secretary who took the meeting notes had training in transcription, and it seems like she took that training too much to heart. A format for minutes of meetings should be brief, straight forward, and to the point. It should contain the essential details of what transpired during the meeting. The report should be briefly summarize, any and all announcements made should be recorded, the general nature of discussions should be simply described and, of course, resolutions adopted should be written down as well. You don’t have to describe everything that everyone said, and you certainly don’t need to do transcriptions!
The format for minutes of meeting that the secretary had been using, however, was almost as thorough as a court transcription. I had to admire the thoroughness of the secretary, and she did seem to be a very competent and intelligent officer, but nonetheless she had no idea how to write down meeting details. It would be a nightmare to have to record all the minutes again, but it seemed like this was what we would have to do. We had to individually go through all of her notes, summarize them, put them down in the proper format for minutes of meetings, and refile them. It took hours upon hours, and was not much fun.
Now that we have more distinct, properly formatted notes, it is much easier to review the records. Until we went through them all, there was just too much information. A lot of people think that thoroughness is the only goal, but it is not. In this modern business world, being able to safely include the relevant information is even more important. If you are writing down too much stuff, the important facts will get lost in the shuffle. If your format for minutes of meetings is straightforward and to the point, however, any important decision can be easily index and looked up at a moments notice.

Baltimore Museums
By gooseandgander | February 12, 2009
Maryland has many impressive cultural attractions to delight residents and visitors. Baltimore museums are an important contribution and there is something for everyone. The city is a major seaport and several attractions have a maritime theme. Sport is also of great interest to the city and local sporting triumphs are celebrated.
One of the city’s famous sons is the baseball legend, Babe Ruth. He was a huge personality as well as a gifted player and his life is commemorated at the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum. Various memorabilia is on display, including a catcher’s mitt and jersey, and a hymn book belonging to Babe. There are pictures of his family and visitors can see the room where he came into the world. There is also an exhibit about the movie that was made about him. Another display details the number of home runs made by Babe and other players. This is one of the most popular Baltimore museums.
The museum also operates the Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards. Housed in the old railway station, there are exhibits on Babe Ruth, the Orioles and Colts teams, Johnny Unites, the Negro Leagues, and minor league baseball played in Maryland. The museum also displays the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame.
For families interested in the world of science, the Maryland Science Center is the place to go for a day out. There are interactive exhibits, an IMAX Theater, a planetarium and an observatory. This is an award winning Baltimore museum, receiving the Best of Baltimore award for the Best Place to take Kids in 2006. Children particularly like the full scale models of dinosaurs, which include a Tyrannosaurus Rex. The kids under eight years of age have their own activity room. Other exhibits include information on the human body and the solar system and galaxy. There is also a display of Maryland Blue Crabs, found in Chesapeake Bay.
The National Aquarium in Baltimore is located in the Inner Harbor area of the city. The marine life on display is impressive and represents 560 different species. Highlights include the dolphin shows, the ray pool and a multi story shark tank. There is also the opportunity to see stingrays and a Green Sea Turtle. In addition to marine exhibits, there are also birds, monkeys and different kinds of amphibians and reptiles. Baltimore museums also look to the outside world and there is a rainforest exhibit and a display with an Australian theme. After their tour, visitors can relax in the cafes and gift shops.
The National Museum of Dentistry is one of the more unusual Baltimore museums. Located on campus at the University of Maryland, it tells the history of the dental profession in America and throughout the world. It is a logical place to be as Baltimore was the first city in the world to open a dental school. There are artifacts from different eras and exhibits on oral health. Even George Washington’s dentures are on display!

Network Marketing Leads
By gooseandgander | February 8, 2009
Have you ever thought about changing careers? The growing trend is the establishment of home based businesses. This is not an area that I had any knowledge in, but I was getting exhausted commuting over one hundred miles a day to a job that I was no longer getting satisfaction from. I was getting paid a great salary, yet the amount of time I was spending away from home and my family was no longer worth it. I began looking around for a home based business that I could be involved in that would better my family life.
I do not have an experience in business and I was very new to the internet. I began looking around at different possibilities. I knew from talking with other business owners that I should find something that I could believe in and would be marketable in my area. I found a company that sold air and water purification systems as well as a line of high quality nutritional supplements. This seemed like the perfect company for me because it would help people have a healthier life and the company was stable and had been in business for over twenty years. I began retailing the products from my home and then started bringing other people into the business. In order to do this I needed to find quality network marketing leads. I worked with my sponsor to locate different companies that could supply me with the leads. There are a wide range of network marketing leads in a wide range of prices. My business was not generating a great deal of money yet so I did not want to buy expensive leads. It was explained to me that the more expensive network marketing leads were screened more thoroughly and were people that were ready to get started in a business, however it was not a guarantee. These network marketing leads were too expensive for me to begin with because I felt I needed to have practice in talking with people over the telephone. I went with more moderately priced leads. I found that I enjoyed talking with people from all over the United States. It is not like making cold calls because the people have opted in to hear about home based business opportunities. Many people chose not to get involved, but several wanted to hear more and try the different products, so even though in some cases I did not get business partners I was still able to retail products.
My home based business is a year old now. I have made enough to supplement our income and it is great to be home full time instead of on the road. I am able to work when it fits my schedule and I am able to participate in community events. It is a great way to live a slower paced life style.

Birth Control Options
By gooseandgander | February 1, 2009
In the new millennium, birth control options are certainly more prevalent than ever. From condoms to spermicides, to the pill, we are pretty much covered when it comes to pregnancy prevention. In this sexually active world we all share, good birth control is a must since many of us are not looking to produce offspring.
For women, a common method of birth control is the pill. While the pill does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases, it does offer close to 100% protection against pregnancy. A second birth control available for women is the female condom, which is effective, but not as commonly used as the pill. an advantage to the female condom is that it does protect against STDs.
Birth control options for males, other than a vasectomy, basically consist of the condom. The condom is certainly one of the most popular forms of birth control worldwide. Condoms are nearly 100% effective against pregnancy and STDs. Not to mention the enormous variety of condoms out there. These birth control aids come in a spectrum of colors, textures, and sizes.
Other options available for couples are the diaphragm and the IUD. The diaphragm is quite effective and is used by the woman. However, it does not offer full protection from STD’s. As for an IUD, intrauterine device, these are inserted in a woman to prevent pregnancy, but not STDs. Typically this form of birth control is most effective in women who are over thirty years of age.
Finally, there are other options such as Norplant, which consists of capsules that are inserted in the woman’s arm to prevent pregnancy. This method of birth control is not so widely used.
Whether you’re looking for a birth control or a prevention of STD’s and pregnancy, you will definitely find a vast variety of options online. The Internet is an outstanding source for doing research on birth control options and the prevention of STD’s. You must always consider what you’re protecting yourself from. Pregnancy seems to be the least of our worries in this day and age. With a countless number of STD’s in circulation, you must take necessary precautions before engaging in sexual activity of any kind.
Overall, the male condom is used more commonly than most forms of birth control. This is simply due to its availability, which is in any drug or grocery store for the most part, but also for its simplicity and known protection from STD’s.

Is There Such a Phenomenon As Internet Addiction?
By gooseandgander | January 27, 2009
Strange as it may sound, it’s true. The internet, with millions upon millions of sites to see, can easily become an alternate reality. One link leads to another and before you know it, hours have passed. You may have started out your net session with some serious purpose, researching a health topic or locating information for a term paper.
You decide to take a short break to visit your favorite message board. You find a response to one of your posts from one of your online friends. The response really gets your dander up, so you fire off a quick response. The responder is also online and shoots back with another message. Again, before you know it, dinner’s burning and the kids are after you - “When’s dinner?”.
Does this situation qualify as internet addiction? If this scenario arises once in a blue moon, no. However, in most cases like this, it’s a regular event. Once you’re on the net, you find you’ve got to tear yourself away to tend to business. If surfing the net interferes with regular responsibilities, or keeps you up until the wee hours such that you can’t get up in time for work, you’ve got the dreaded internet addiction.
So prevalent is this phenomenon, there are now institutions and support groups dedicated to curing this brand new addiction. You may be shocked to discover that people are paying money to be rehabilitated from their internet addiction.
If you suspect that you’re creeping up to addictive status, or already there, how do you recognize the signature characteristics of internet addiction? What steps can you take on your own to wean yourself from excessive stints on the web?
To answer the first question, if you’ve got internet addiction, your surfing adventures take priority over other mundane, but necessary tasks, such as doing last week’s laundry, fixing tonight’s meal or helping the kids with homework. Do you become annoyed when someone tries to get your attention while you’re on the net? Do you spend hours playing online games, leaving poor Fido to his own dinner devices? Chances are, you’ve got internet addiction.
Now, what to do? You really don’t want to let dinner burn, or have nothing for the kids to wear tomorrow. Not to mention Fido making off with the meat sitting on the counter. Curing internet addiction requires a disciplined approach and establishing proper priorities. Here are a few clues to get you clean.
Establish certain times of the day or evening when the net won’t interfere with work and family responsibilities. Let’s say you do housework for an hour in the morning and on Saturdays. Pencil that time into your calendar. Homework help is nightly, between 4:00 and 6:00 pm. Mark it down, along with all regular tasks. What’s left is when you fit in net excursions.
Yes, it’s all easier said than done. However, it’s doable. Buck up. Get up an hour earlier than usual, or forego your favorite TV program. Yes!
